During the last few decades groundwater availability is facing increasing pressures. Water quality and qyantity deterioration, physical changes of the aquifers, related problem of salt water encroachment, land subsidence, massive drop of the water table, and increasing pollution from the urban, industry and agriculture, variability in patterns of upstream rainfall, broken down water related infrastructures, a frail information system, water related health problems, induced 'natural hazards, diminishing of traditional wisdom practices and emerging issues related to transboundary water management are some of the problems to be discussed.
